Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles announces the 2009 Youth Competition

Paso Robles, CA – In conjunction with Cuesta College, the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles announces its Third Annual Youth Piano Competition. Applications are due by Friday, October 2, 2009 and auditions will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The piano contest is open to male and female piano students. Entrants will compete in two groups: Juniors (age 10-14) and Seniors (age 15-18). Each finalist will receive a certificate. Cash prizes ranging from $200-$750 will be awarded to the top three performers in each category, as well as the opportunity to perform at the Paderewski Festival Concert in the Paso Robles Inn Ballroom on November 14, 2009. Marek Zebrowski, Director of the Polish Music Center at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music has offered personal coaching prior to the performance.

Selected finalists also may be eligible to participate in the Paderewski Festival educational exchange program that includes piano workshops, master classes and performances in Paderewski’s former estate Kasna Dolna near Tarnow and the Paderewski Institute at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

All eligible young pianists are encouraged to enter this competition. The contestants must currently be studying with an established piano teacher and reside within San Luis Obispo, Monterey or Santa Barbara Counties. Professional pianists may not apply.

The Competition Jury will include: pianist and composer Marek Zebrowski, Director of the Polish Music Center at the University of Southern California; Susan Davies, class piano instructor, California Polytechnic State University; and India D’Avignon, assistant piano instructor, California Polytechnic State University.
