Cracow Duo - A Benefit Concert
Saturday, March 21, 2020

An exclusive concert featuring the world famous Cracow Duo - cellist Jan Kalinowski and pianist Marek Szlezer will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2020. This event will take place at a stunning private hilltop home in Paso Robles' westside, beginning with a wine and cheese reception and self-guided art tour at 2 pm. The concert will begin promptly at 3 pm followed by a live auction. This proceeds from this concert benefit the 2020 Paderewski Festival taking place November 5-8.

Described by the Strad Magaziine as having "an arresting quality to their playing that gives life to music," the Cracow Duo toured throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America, performing at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Salle Cortot in Paris, St. Martin-in-the-Fields in london, and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to traditional cello and piano repertoire, Kalinowski and Szlezer have championed a number of contemporary composers who wrote music expressly for their ensemble. The Cracow Duo also actively promotes the discovery of lesser-known composers and presents their works in concerts as well as in their numerous recordings and media broadcasts.

For their appearance in Paso Robles, the Cracow Duo has selected a very attractive program that includes such war-horses as Chopin's youthful and vigorous Introduction and Polonaise brillante for cello and piano as well as charming salon pieces by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and his friend, Zygmunt Stojowski - who used to visit Paderewski in Paso during the 1920s and 1930s. The Cracow Duo fundraising concert will also present works by Aleksander Tansman and Astor Piazzolla, bringing a mid-twentieth century Polish-French accent and a dash of Argentinian tango flair to their well-rounded selections.
