Two Young Central Coast Pianists to Participate in 2013 Paderewski Cultural Exchange to Poland

Paso Robles, CA – As part of the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles’ Cultural Exchange to Poland, two young Central Coast pianists will travel there in June to participate in workshops, master classes, chamber music, and concerts at Paderewski’s historic manor house in Kąśna Dolna. For eight days they will join two students each from the Music School in Tarnów and two the city of Khmilnyk in the Ukraine. Other concerts in the Małopolska region, including in the royal city of Kraków are also planned.

Daniel Ha (13), a resident of Arroyo Grande, is a veteran of the Paderewski Youth Piano Competition in Paso Robles, having received Honorable Mention (2010), First Place (2011), and Second Place (2012) in the Competition’s Junior Division. His current piano teacher is Dr. Lynne Garrett.

A straight-A student at Judkins Middle School in Pismo Beach, Ha was also the district winner of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) Honors Competition in 2011 and 2012. Last summer he participated in the Music Academy of the West MERIT Program in Santa Barbara, California. This two-week program gives some of the best young musicians in the state the opportunity to play in an ensemble group mentored by fellows in the Music Academy of the West Summer Program.

According to Daniel, “The piano has helped me learn how to work hard at something and to put time into things. It has also given me the chance to experience the joy of reaching difficult goals that I worked hard to achieve.”

“Going to Poland this year will mean so much to me. Having participated in the past three Paderewski Competitions, I have always wondered what it would be like to visit Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s homeland. It will be an honor to perform and sleep in the manor of one of the greatest musicians of all time. It will also be interesting for me to travel to Poland and experience its culture.”

Jack Raventos (13), a resident of Orcutt, is an accomplished musician who plays both piano and violin. At age 12 he has already won multiple awards and accolades, including First Place in the Paso Robles Paderewski Youth Piano Competition, Junior Division in 2012. Jack has also been featured as a youth performer in both violin and piano for the Santa Maria Philharmonic Youth Showcase. He is a past Regional winner of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers Honors State Competition 2011 and regional winner of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers Bartok & Contemporary Music Festival in 2012.

A straight-A student who enjoys riding his unicycle while playing his violin, Raventos studies piano with Dr. Lynne Garrett, and violin with Brynn Albanese.

According to Jack, “The Paderewski Youth Piano Competition pushed me to a new level of music and has made a big impact on my life. When I took First Place Junior Division, I was so excited because the hard work and dedication paid off. Not only did I get to perform at the Paderewski Festival, I now get to go on the Paderewski Youth Exchange Program to Poland. I would love to travel and experience the home country of Paderewski and one of my favorite composers, Chopin. I love the challenge and opportunity to perform in Poland.”

The Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles is a non-profit organization that sponsors an annual series of concerts featuring internationally acclaimed artists, the Paderewski Youth Piano Competition and Exchange Program.
